Hi Everyone!
I have a couple of stupid questions. I should know the answer but I don't.

I need to obtain a stool sample for the Vet.
How do I do that without it being covered in litter, or is that ok?
and
Will it be ok if it is taken the day before the appointment?

I will be taking Artie to the Vet sometime this week, either Wed or Saturday.
His next BM should be Tuesday, and then again on Thursday.

Artie's poop is black and very stinky! Has been for a few weeks. I thought it was because he was constipated. Then I thought it was because I overdosed with the Miralax. But today it was nicely formed, black and stunk! :sad2
He has early kidney failure and had iFLUTD in May. The kidney failure was diagnosed mostly with his urine ph levels. His BUN and creatinine have been high normal, to slightly elevated.
Artie is such a pickey eater so I am still transitioning him to Royal Canin SO along with cheap food--fancy feast, royal canin, Nurto Max. He eats just about 3 cans of food a day. I think 3/4 of that is the prescription food.

I have had a really bad cold bordering on bronchitis for the past couple of weeks so he has not been playing much. But he seems a little quiet.
Artie is a 9.5 year old neutered orange male. I adopted him 1 1/2 years ago.

Thanks for any help and listening to me.

ARtie is my buddy...my cuddlebug!:party

Generally fresher is better for poo samples. If it's possible to get one from the very morning of the vet appointment, that would be the way to go, but if he hasn't gone yet that day, then the night before will have to do. I usually collect samples from the litter box and just put them in a ziplock baggie. The fact that it's got litter on it shouldn't be a problem.

Litter is fine. Fresh is best, but the day before will work....ziploc bag it and refrigerate.

I don't worry about the litter on it. I put a piece in a baggie and the vet squishes it to get at the middle. They only need a tiny smear.

If you put it in a refrigerator make sure you label it so no one takes it for a candy bar.

I made a "litterbox cake" for the office Halloween party last year and I used almond roca as....uh....garnish. ;)

LOL, my Mom's dog eats cat poo. We call them tootsie rolls. :)

As long as it's less than 24 hours old, it's fine. Put it in the fridge if it's going to be mroe than 8 hours old when you get it to the vet.

CUT IT OUT! y'all!! it's morning when I read this stuff!! Marcia's post had my hand covering my mouth and by the time I read Venusworld's post I had those 'shivers'!! lol
C'mon!! have a little mercy!! :yikes

I baked a regular cake. Bought a brand new litter box from the store and lined it with wax paper. Put the cake on the wax paper inside the litter box. I used vanilla frosting and added a drop or two of black food coloring to make it look gray. Then I crumbled up some vanilla cookies on top of the frosting and used tootsie rolls and almond roca to finish. I have a picture of it still if you really want to see. ;)
